Jasper not well

Looking after the health and welfare of your Schnauzer can be a full time job. You will find information on neutering, spaying, vaccinations, vet visits, upset tummies, Schnauzer bumps and much more here. Ask a question and someone will have had a similar experience. We also appreciate updates on how your Schnauzer is recuperating. A separate section is dedicated to our older Schnauzers.

Jasper not well

Post by Dawnspell » 22 Nov 2019, 11:40

Poor little fella not well. The tell tale sign was he was quiet this morning and I didn't get a wet nose waking me up =)) He also didn't try to pinch any items of clothing while I was getting dressed and just laid on the bed. Once up he didn't want food or drink or even to go outside, but was shivering on and off. He just wanted to be picked up and cuddled. No vomiting or runny poos.

Given his chewing habits hes been to the vet in case he'd eaten something he shouldn't. Full examination including finger up his bum, he wasn't impressed :)) No feel able blockages and his stomachs relaxed. He does have slight temperature. Shes treating it as gastro inflammation. For the moment hes on antacids and probiotics and see how he does.

He did big normal poo when we got back and no blood or anything so that's good. Since then all hes wanted is Mummy cuddles and is fast asleep on my knee.

He ate some raw green tripe yesterday and had some bone broth. He was still very subdued all night. He slept through the night then we got woken by him be sick at 7.30 this morning.

He couldn't be persuaded to drink anything and was still very lethargic. He was sick again about an hour later still refusing drink. So back to the vets. He still wasn't showing any signs of abdominal pain and did have a big drink in the consulting room. He's been kept in to do some blood tests, just waiting for phone call.

He's home again. The blood tests showed highish white cell count which is normally a sign of viral infection. He's loads livelier than this morning and is eating again which hopefully means he's over the worse and on the mend :)

:D Excellent. There are a lot coming down with a horrid virus at the moment and looking at the unpickupable poop that I have seen on our walks recently there is lots of evidence of it. :ymsick:
