Empty house

Had enough of your Schnauzer for one day. Then sit back, relax and put your feet up. You can let off a little steam here about things unrelated to your four-legged schnauzer.

Empty house

Post by Ellebee »

I’m new to this forum. We recently lost our giant schnauzer. We have been dog owners all our lives, including rescue dogs, collies and large breed working dogs. We rescued a dog many years ago: a large, black, mystery mix of a dog who was highly intelligent, funny, stubborn and protective. We had him for 12 years. When he died we began looking for breeds of dog that had similar characteristics. We found giant schnauzers and just knew immediately this was the breed for us. We contacted a fabulous Breeder and bought our first pup. He changed our lives - for anyone who says giants are not like other dogs, you are absolutely right. They are amazing. He was larger than life; opinionated (often right!), smart, funny and incredibly intelligent and kind. He had the biggest heart and was loved by everyone who knew him.We were lucky enough to have our giant for 13 years. He died a couple of weeks ago and we are completely lost without him. The home is a house again and we cant imagine life without giants in it.

Hello Laura and welcome to the Forum :)

So sorry to hear of the loss of your Giant Schnauzer. 13 years is a good age but however long we have with our family dogs it always seems much too short when they pass. I am sure you must have a treasure trove of wonderful memories and, hopefully once the emotional pain has eased a little, you may be ready to welcome another dog into your home.

Take care :ymhug:

Sorry to hear of your loss, you just see them everywhere you go and constantly expect them to be in their usual spots. Some people feel the need to wait before getting another dog others just cant bare to be without, neither is right or wrong.

I'm really sorry to hear about the loss of your giant; all schnauzers occupy a bit of our heart and are terribly missed when they've gone. I hope that, in time, you will find the rawness of your loss will fade and they happy memories will come easier.

Thank you to everyone who replied. It is tricky explaining losing a giant to non-giant owners, they are such special dogs. We are so lucky to have had him in our lives for so long and do have lots of happy memories to remember him. Dogs have such a marvellous attitude towards life and he was a superstar. ‘Start each day with a wagging tail’ is so apt and we will also look to the future and hope to have giants in our lives again.
